Beyond Betrayal’s 2010 EP is in a word …. Quality! In a few more words …. an absolute epic incarnation of one of the best low screams, pure pure riffage, baselines that slap your eardrums into paying attention and some footwork on the drum pedals that would make even a certain Mr. Adler think Jesus that’s good! This is my first sample of Beyond Betrayal and I’m disgusted with myself for not knowing more about them sooner.

This 5 piece Metalcore act from Barrow-In-Furness have certainly captured the imagination with this EP and I for 1 hope an album will be following at some point in the near future.

The Ties That Bind is quickly becoming a favorite track of mine, I like the use of regular, ‘conventional’ singing as well as the brutal throat bleeders. I haven’t found many local acts that posses a vocalist capable of making a singing voice recognizable  among the hectic furore of pure metal. It is a major asset to have as versatility can set you apart in a genre that is a very concentrated market. I can’t stop talking about this song until I have mentioned one more thing, the breakdown. It’s easy to forget such a fundamental part of metal music beneath the ever present search for thrash, the whole thrash and nothing but the thrash. One of my favorite bands Parkway Drive have mastered the well placed earth shattering breakdown and Beyond Betrayal are off to an awesome start in this respect.

Hopefully I’ll get a chance to see these guys live in the new year, because the EP has sold me! To all you metal fans out there may I recommend getting out to any show you can and give Beyond Betrayal the chance they deserve. I hope the future brings them success as this brand of metal needs to be heard by more than just our little corner of the planet.
